Poker is a card game in which players compete to form the best hand of cards, traditionally to win cash or chips. Players place bets before each round of betting, and may raise these bets if they think their hands are strong enough. The winner of a hand claims the pot at the end of the round.

Once all players have 2 cards, there is a round of betting that starts with the player to the left of the dealer. These mandatory bets, called blinds, ensure that there is a pot to play for and encourage competition.
After the first round of betting, a 3rd community card is dealt face up. This is called the flop. After the flop, there is another round of betting that starts with the player to your left.
After the final betting phase, each player reveals their hands. The highest hand wins the pot. The most common poker hands are a pair (two cards of equal rank), three of a kind, straight, flush and full house. A flush consists of five consecutive cards from the same suit, while a straight contains 5 cards that skip around in rank but are not in sequence. A full house is composed of 3 matching cards and two unmatched cards, while a pair consists of 2 identical cards.
